The following remarks made by John J. Sweeney, who recently assumed the presidency of the AFL-CIO, outlined his view of the future of labor-management relations. Among the issues Sweeney discussed was what he considered to be a troubling disparity between corporate profits that are at a 45-year high juxtaposed with the slowest growth in employee earnings since 1981.
Sweeney made the remarks to the Association for a Better New York on 
December 6, 1995.
